๐ HackUTD 2024: Building a Data-Powered Future
HackUTD was an intense but rewarding experience. Our team decided to build the Vehicle Fuel Economy Data Visualization App, an interactive web application designed to analyze and visualize fuel economy trends from 2021 to 2025.
๐ฏ Our Mission
We aimed to make fuel efficiency data more accessible and intuitive for car buyers, manufacturers, and environmental analysts.
๐ง Features We Developed
โ Filtering & Sorting โ Users could filter by year, manufacturer, division, and car model while sorting results based on fuel economy, CO2 emissions, and more.
โ Dynamic Data Visualization โ We built interactive charts to display fuel efficiency trends and emissions data in an engaging way.
โ Responsive Design โ The app was designed to be fully functional across mobile, tablet, and desktop devices.
๐ The Hackathon Experience
We encountered some major roadblocksโprimarily dealing with large datasets and optimizing real-time filtering for high-speed performance.
However, after hours and tons of Red Bull, we pulled through!
๐ What I Learned
๐น Data matters. Seeing raw data transform into interactive, meaningful insights was incredibly satisfying.
๐น JavaScript performance tuning is crucial. Our app required efficient filtering and sorting to avoid sluggish load times.
๐น Hackathons teach rapid problem-solving. When working under pressure, quick decision-making and adaptability are everything.
๐ Final Thoughts
We didnโt just build an appโwe built a tool that could genuinely help people make informed decisions about vehicle fuel efficiency.
๐ก HackUTD 2024 was a blast, and I can't wait for next yearโs challenge!
